Kayla Dolan and Caitlin Bowe, recipients of  the Maureen Nolan Scholarship for pro-life activities, are holding their second annual baby shower in support of the unborn child. The event, open to all, will take place Sunday October 21 from 1-5 p.m. at the home of Kayla Dolan, 500 Adams Ave, West Hempstead (phone: 516-485-7505). All gifts and donations are for the babies of Momma’s House, which is dedicated to ensuring that any pregnant young woman on Long Island can have a realistic opportunity to choose life for her child even in the most difficult of circumstances.

Brother Peter Joseph Sullivan recently made his solemn profession as a Benedictine Brother at St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minn.
 
Brother Peter grew up in Mattituck. His mother, Anna Sullivan, still lives there and is a parishioner at Sacred Heart parish, Cutchogue, as are his brother, Thomas, sister-in-law Leah, and their two children.

St. Francis de Sales Church community in Patchogue enjoyed its 16th annual bilingual outdoor Mass and parish picnic on September 9.  Approximately 450 parishioners were in attendance as pastor Father Thomas Pers, Msgr. Thomas Molloy, deacons Marty McIndoe and Francisco Diaz-Granados led the people in the celebration of the Mass.

The boys of the Squires raised the funds by having a car wash and running a booth at Our Lady of the Rosary Knights of Columbus annual feast.

As part of a school-wide effort encouraging students to focus on how their words and actions can affect another person’s happiness, the school community at St. Edward the Confessor is participating in the Bucket Fillers program, based on the book “Have You Filled A Bucket Today?”

“This program takes in so much of what we are asked to do as Catholics,” said Vincent Albrecht, principal. Here, students in Ms. Stallone’s fourth grade class proudly show their buckets made out of brown bags.

On Sept. 8, members the Legion of Mary praesidia of St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s Churches

On Sept. 8, members the Legion of Mary praesidia of St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s Churches in Brentwood marked the feast of the Nativity of Mary with a rosary procession that covered the two-mile distance between the parishes. The event began with a noon Mass at St. Luke’s and concluded with exposition of the Eucharist, consecration to Mary, and a festive “birthday party” at St. Anne’s. The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization of more than 3 million people devoted to the rosary, evangelization, and service to others.

Brother Robert Malusa, 47, from Locust Valley and St. Gertrude’s Parish in Bayville,

Brother Robert Malusa, 47, from Locust Valley and St. Gertrude’s Parish in Bayville, made his perpetual profession as a Salesian of Don Bosco on Saturday, August 18, at the Marian Shrine in Haverstraw-Stony Point, N.Y. He is a lay member of the Salesian Society, also known as a “coadjutor brother.”

Brother Malusa is the son of Dominick and the late Marie Malusa. His father is still an active member of St. Gertrude’s Parish. He has three brothers, John, Mark, and Stephen.

From August 12-18, students and faculty from Chaminade High School, Mineola, and Holy

From August 12-18, students and faculty from Chaminade High School, Mineola, and Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, Hicksville, found themselves working side by side at Nazareth Farm in West Virginia. Six students and two faculty from each school joined in the home repair work that Nazareth Farm, a Catholic organization, performs in Doddridge and Harrison Counties in West Virginia. Throughout the year, they welcome high-school, college, and family groups from all over the country for one-week service retreats.

Latino youth and young adults from across the diocese gathered  Sept. 3 on the grounds of Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, for the annual diocesan Encuentro celebration, held every Labor Day.  Bishops William Murphy, Robert Brennan and Nelson Perez were among the concelebrants of the liturgy which was followed by a picnic. Rowan, a 21-year veteran Air Force Chaplain who has served on 13 deployments, including two in Iraq, three in Saudi Arabia, three in the United Arab Emirates, two in Qatar, and one in Kyrgyzstan, was honored as “Veteran of the Game,” part of New York City’s four day observance of “Air Force Week in New York.”

Our Lady Queen of Apostles Regional School in Center Moriches held an early childhood day on August 26, to showcase the school’s programs for younger children and give kids a chance for some end-of-summer fun.

Above, Molloy College welcomed the class of 2016 with a fun fair on August 22, including a barbeque, ice-breaker games, and even an inflatable climbing wall.  It was one component of the Rockville Centre school’s orientation program which also included trips to Broadway shows, leadership weekends and traditional information sessions.
