Anne Heagerty (#24 and Player of the Year) takes to the offense after teammate Maggie Bill (#22 and game MVP) won the faceoff.

The rain held off long enough on May 21 for the Nassau Suffolk Catholic High School girls lacrosse championship to be played, and St. Anthony’s High School, South Huntington, also held on to win their fifth straight title, defeating Sacred Heart Academy, Hempstead, 19-12.  The game was close throughout the first half, ending with St. Anthony’s leading 9-7, but the Friars exploded for 10 more goals in the second half. Senior Anne Heagerty (Player of the Year) and junior Maggie Bill (game MVP) each scored four of St. Anthony’s goals.

The senior captains show off the fruits of their hard work this season as they hoist the championship plaque.
