Sister M. Sarita Gesler, IHM

Scranton, PA — Sister M. Sarita Gesler, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died October 1 at Our Lady of Peace Residence here.

Sister Sarita entered the IHM congregation on February 2, 1941 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1943 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1946.
In the Diocese of Rockville Centre, she served as a teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington (1990-98). Between 1943-98, she also taught and served as principal at schools in Maryland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and upstate New York.

Sister Sarita was an instructor at the Educational Enrichment Institute, IHM Center here from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree in education from Duquesne University. She is survived by a nephew, Steve Gesler of Kalispell, MT.
 Her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 5 at Our Lady of Peace Residence. Interment followed at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
