Sacred Heart pastor named Monsignor


At the San Gennaro Festival at Sacred Heart Parish, Island Park, last month, Bishop Murphy announced that the Holy Father has named the pastor, Father John Tutone, a chaplain of honor to His Holiness with the title of Reverend Monsignor.  

Msgr. John Tutone, pastor of Sacred Heart Church since 1993, previously served on the diocesan tribunal, 1981-93. He was also an associate pastor at St. Martha’s, Uniondale, and Our Lady of Lourdes, Massapequa.

Ordained in 1971, Msgr. Tutone is a graduate of St. Barbara’s School, Brooklyn, St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary, Uniondale, Our Lady of the Angels Seminary, Albany; and Niagara University. He earned a degree in canon law at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Msgr. Tutone has been a member of the Priests Senate, a theology teacher at St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary and rector of the former St. Pius X Residence for Senior Priests.
